No Man’s Land, Beaver County, Oklahoma
A pot-bellied cloud
shades the stream like
paint on canvas. Letters
flake off the name of a drowned
boat. Dandelions nod in a shy breeze,
blow memories in the blue. Light blazes,
makes liquid mesas waver. With each blink
I see stones on the ground, shaped like
arrowheads, the color of dirt’s iron
blood. At dusk, a shower spots
cracked clay, pieces of a
large puzzle waiting
for play by spirits.
